SatPointer

SatPointer.

SatPointer is a software application to assist in the aiming of small Satellite Receiving Antennas (dish type) at the desired geostationary Satellite or transmitter.

To do this it requires two things:-

  • Knowledge of the geographic latitude and longitude of the receiving antenna on the earths surface.  This is usually provided by the user using a GPS and can be saved to a small database of receive antenna locations or place names for later recall.
  • Knowledge of the longitude value for the desired geostationary orbit satellite.  This also is usually provided by the user from information the user has obtained from their satellite system provider.  Again the satellite, its name and location can be saved to a small database for later recall.

Once the software has these requirements it can be called upon to calculate the antenna elevation angle with respect to local horizontal and the azimuth angle for the antenna with respect to both true North and Magnetic North for the antenna location provided and the desired geostationary satellite.

Other Features:-

  • User maintainable XML databases of Places (Name, latitude & longitude) and Satellites.
  • Automatically corrects for the Earths magnetic declination variation using a mathematical method.
  • Computes polarization tilt for selected ground location and satellite.
  • Results can be “logged” so that more than one calculation can be observed and printed.
  • On line context sensitive help.
